Student Travel Awards
Applications are now closed
This award is intended to recognize emerging tribologists in academia and their participation in the International Conference on Wear of Materials. Applicants will be reviewed by the Board of WOM Inc. according to the timeline below.
Awardees will receive complimentary registration for the WOM conference. We anticipate making up to 20 awards depending upon application strength.
Application deadline: 2 weeks after manuscript decision deadline.
Decisions will be made: ~2 weeks after application deadline and recipients notified.
Eligibility
To be selected for an award, all applicants must have a manuscript accepted at the conference (oral OR poster). In addition, the following eligibility conditions apply:
- At the time of the application deadline, the applicant must be enrolled and in good standing in a Masters or PhD program or equivalent degree program.
- Students closer to completing their degree will receive preference over students who are earlier in their degree program.
- Student must be the presenting author.
Award Requirements
- Once selected for the award, awardees must register, attend and present at the conference, including attending the conference dinner.
- Awardees may be asked to co-chair 1-2 sessions at the conference.
- Under no circumstances will an individual other than the student applicant be granted an award.
Application Materials
- Application information must include the following details:
- Name
- Institution
- Faculty Advisor
- Current Degree pursued
- WOM accepted Manuscript title and number
- Month and Year of start of current degree
- Anticipated graduation month and year
Signature and Attestation: I attest that I have read the eligibility and requirements for this award, and that the information I have provided is accurate. I further understand that if found ineligible, I will no longer be in consideration for the award.
- Candidate CV or Vita – including a list of scholarship (research papers, presentations, patents, other products of scholarly impact) and awards.
- 1-page personal statement discussing research portfolio and how attending WOM helps them with their intended career path
- Letter of Endorsement from Faculty Advisor summarizing student accomplishments and potential to contribute to the field of tribology.
- Copy/confirmation of Final Accepted WOM Manuscript
